To be a Brave Friend

“To Be A Brave Friend” is an original short about bullying and anti-racism. Newton calls his friend, Sam, for their afternoon Zoom call. Sam tells Newton about a new kid he met at school. Sam wasn’t sure if he could be brave enough to go over and talk to the new student, but he decides he does not want to be a “silent bully” and instead lets his curiosity take over. In the end, Newton comes to understand he sometimes is a “silent bully” without realizing it. He thanks Sam for showing him another way.

Puppet Story Time: Martin’s Big Words

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the book for this month’s episode of Through Me to You Puppetry’s story time is “Martin’s Big Words” by Doreen Rappaport.

The book blends Martin Luther King’s biographical information & the events of the Civil Rights movement with his actual words.

Our storytime video takes the book one step further and includes audio clips & photographs of Dr. King.

The book & video are recommended for 2nd grade and up.

Puppet Storytime: The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon

Through Me To You Puppetry presents “The Very Fluffy Kitty, Papillon.” Newton is in a fluffy mood and is getting carried away! What better way to celebrate than by reading a book about a cat so fluffy, he floats! Join Newton and Blue Sky as they read A.N. Kang’s story and sing an original song about Papillon. And if you wanna catch a REAL fluffy kitty on camera, be sure to stay til the very end!

“Fluffy Kitty Song”

Leigh Baltzer is a homeschooler by day, puppeteer by night. She’s grateful for her friends&fam, cats, puppets and her son. (Not in order…or is it?)

“At  the  center  of  your  being you  have  the  answer;
you  know  who  you  are  and  you  know  what  you  want.”
– Lao Tzu

At the center of my being lives a puppeteer.  I’ve known this since I was 6 years old, performing endless puppet shows from behind the couch for my ever tolerant family.

I continue to fuel this passion, honing my craft as I replace the behind-the-couch shows with live Zoom shows, Puppet Story Time videos — and one glorious day in the future — in-person shows, once again.

I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to engage with children — and follow my own dreams in the process. I am honored to be part of the spark that ignites their imaginations as they discover who they are at the center of their beings.
